Race Day 1
The atmosphere was quite tense in the garage on Saturday. Most of the guests were seated inside a ‘watching box’, to see the race. But I wanted to see the race on the track itself. So I stepped out with my DSLR to find a spot with a good view of the track.
First came the free practice. Both Nick and Felix had got through to Super Pole. Just before the race began, I found a hairpin bend of the track (probably the eighth or ninth turn) to watch the race. Immediately after the race began, I saw Lucas on the turn, followed by Felix and then Nick, all whizzing by. I knew then that we had overtaken the other cars in the first lap itself. This is not always possible in Formula E. Sometimes, you know you can overtake a car, but can’t because of the power in your battery. So energy management is crucial here. It makes the race more interesting to watch.
After about 30 laps – I went back to the garage. Everyone was tensed, fingers crossed. But we had a good chance of winning. When Felix crossed the finish line first, the entire garage erupted in cheer. Then Nick followed in third.
Hugs, high fives, smiles and cheer. I captured all those moments. It was a great start to the weekend.
