6 Times Jérôme made us Jump for Joy
Posted on: 06 August, 2019
It’s been almost a month since Season 5 of the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E came to a close, and it was a rollercoaster of a season. We started off on a high note and, while there were a few lows that we experienced through the season, our drivers constantly pushed hard and had some fun off the track as well. Here, we look back at some times when Jérôme D’Ambrosio gave us a reason to smile.
1. First race, first podium
It wasn’t Jérôme’s first Formula E race, but the 2018 Ad Diriyah E-Prix in Saudi Arabia was his maiden race as a Mahindra Racing driver, and he’s had our hearts ever since. He raced well to cross the finish line in the #64 M5Electro, named Falcon, to finish on the podium in third, setting a high benchmark at the start of the season. Relive the action by watching the highlights, here.
2. Glory in Marrakesh
Expectations were high even before the lights went out in Morocco. Jérôme started tenth on the grid, and tactfully avoided a first corner mess, before making it up to fifth on the first lap alone. An exhilarating race ensued, and not only did he bring home our second consecutive win in Marrakesh, Jérôme also celebrated his first win as a Mahindra Racing driver. He also took the lead of the ABB FIA Formula E Drivers’ Championship fight at this race.
3. Jérôme Goes to Bollywood
The Belgian likes to prove his mettle on the circuit. And then, he likes to have just as much fun off the track. Passioneer Gul Panag decided to throw Jérôme D’Ambrosio, Nick Heidfeld and Team Principal Dilbagh Gill a challenge. They were taken to a movie set, dressed up in true Bollywood fashion, and of course, there was dance and music. Watch all the high drama and questionable dance moves, here.
4. In the lead
While Jérôme finished fourth in the Mexico City E-Prix, narrowly missing the podium, his performance propelled the team back to the top. Once again, Mahindra Racing was leading the Teams’ Standings, and D'Ambrosio reclaimed the lead in the Drivers' title fight.
5. Winning the Laser Quest
Ahead of the 2019 Bern E-Prix, we challenged our neighbours in the paddock, Envision Virgin Racing, to a Laser Quest. Our adventure-junkies Jérôme D’Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein battled it out against Sam Bird and Robert Frijns. Watch them in combat, here.
6. Jérôme vs Danger
It's not just our drivers; our boss Dilbagh Gill has an appetite for adventure too. Before the lights went green in the season finale double-header in New York, Dilbagh threw an exhilarating challenge at Jérôme – to race against the fastest man in New York City. Just as excited about the challenge, Jérôme obliged and took to the streets of Manhattan, going head-to-head against Jesse Danger, the parkour athlete who’s better known as the ‘Daredevil of New York’. Watch him in action, here.
