MAHINDRA RACING ALL SET TO TAKE THE FIGHT TO HONG KONG

Three weeks after its double-points finish in Mexico, and fresh from the third in-season test, Mahindra Racing travels to Hong Kong for the fifth round of the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship with the aim of consolidating its lead in both the manufacturers and driver’s championship.

Mahindra Racing heads to Hong Kong with high hopes of maintaining its podium record since the city’s inaugural race in season three. Ready to challenge at the front in his #64 M5Electro, known as the flying ‘Falcon’, is the current leader in the driver’s battle, Jérôme D’Ambrosio. Meanwhile Pascal Wehrlein, energised from his second consecutive Super Pole appearance and maiden pole position in the last race, will go racing in his #94 car, Electro McElectroFace.

At the inaugural race in Hong Kong in 2016, Mahindra Racing’s Nick Heidfeld finished on the podium in third place and repeated that result in the first of last year’s double-header races, while Felix Rosenqvist took the triple honours with a perfect day in race 2 in 2017; Pole Position, race victory and fastest lap.

As preparation for the first of two Asian legs gets underway, Mahindra Racing is pleased to announce that it remains the only team in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship to be accredited by the FIA Institute’s Sustainability Programme. Based on a recent assessment, the team attained its FIA 2-Star accreditation which is the equivalent to the previous “Progress towards Excellence” rating.

“Firstly I’m very happy that Mahindra Racing has attained its FIA 2-Star accreditation going into Hong Kong; we’re still the only Formula E team to do so and I’m very proud of the team and the hard work that goes into maintaining this status on a day-to-day basis. We’ve had great success in Hong Kong in the past and, of course, I’d love to be on the podium listening to the Indian national anthem again, but we will approach the race in the same way; to achieve the best possible result.”

“We’ve had some great races so far this season and now we must focus on getting qualifying right. We’ve had some moments, but we’ve always showed that we can bounce back. I love Hong Kong and I always look forward to going there. We tested quite a few things in Mexico and I’m really happy with the progress. Now, we must try to maximise any opportunity to try to continue to advance our lead in the driver and manufacturer battles.”

Jérôme D'Ambrosio

“I’m approaching the Hong Kong E-Prix the same as every other weekend. I’m not happy with second or third. I want to be as quick as possible and achieve the maximum, so I will take the same risks and aim for the best result. I had two good weekends but there was a lot more potential. For me it is one of the best seasons so far that I’ve had and one of the best feelings I have had in motorsport. I’m in a competitive position and I appreciate it a lot. I’m enjoying racing more than ever before.”
