MAHINDRA RACING GEN2 FORMULA E CAR TO TAKE TO THE TRACK AT CARFEST IN THE UK

21 JUNE 2018 – This year’s CarFest South festival will offer a unique opportunity for UK motoring and sport fans to be amongst the first to see the new season five, Generation 2 Formula E car in action. Race winning team Mahindra Racing will be putting its 2018/19 Formula E car onto the track at CarFest South ahead of the start of the season in December. Given that the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is not racing in the UK this season, and the last time a race was held on British soil was in July 2016, this exciting appearance gives UK fans an exclusive chance to view next season’s futuristic all-electric race car up-close.

Mahindra Racing has had a successful season so far securing two wins in Marrakesh and Hong Kong as well as appearing on the podium on a further occasion. Additionally, Mahindra has proven itself to be one of this season’s real contenders, scoring a fastest lap award, three pole positions and six super pole appearances in addition to it’s podium appearances. Mahindra Racing is currently 4th in the Constructors’ Championship and Felix Rosenqvist is 5th in the Drivers’ Championship with teammate Nick Heidfeld in 11th.

Mahindra’s Gen2 car has almost double the energy storage capacity and double the range – next season’s cars will be able to complete the full race distance without having to make a mandatory car swap. This is clear proof of the advancements in battery and motor technology. The futuristic looking new car represents a new era for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship and distinguishes itself from other categories in motorsport. It will be used for a three-year cycle before the technology takes another step forward. The teams and drivers will compete with the Gen2 car across the 2018-19, 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons.

The Formula E car is just a part of CarFest’s four-wheeled action line-up, which will be better than ever. The Car Paddock is back, celebrating the very best F1 cars, convertibles, coupes, grand tourers, saloons, super cars and sports cars. The new state-of-the-art track at CarFest South has been designed by Jody Scheckter and F1 legend Ross Brawn comprising of a series of corners replicating that of the swimming pool complex at Monaco. Take a trip to Oktoberfest where you will be transported to an authentic German Village featuring a wonderful display of the best German cars themed amongst a Bavarian beer hall with traditional food, music and entertainment.

The headline music acts across both festivals include Paloma Faith, Razorlight, Clean Bandit, The X Factor 2018 Winners Rak Su, Burt Bacharach, The Coral and Richard Ashcroft. They will appear alongside 80s icons Bananarama, Billy Ocean, The Feeling, Status Quo, Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, The Proclaimers and Madness. What’s more, this year will feature an EXCLUSIVE performance from CarFest’s Supergroup, curated by Kaiser Chief’s Ricky Wilson, including Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp, with more members still to be announced.

Some of the cooking scene’s top talent will be joining the CarFest Kitchen, including UK favourite Joe Wicks ‘The Body Coach’ and Bake Off favourite Candice Brown. Returning culinary masters including Tom Kerridge and Angela Hartnett will also be joined by James Martin and Michelin Star Chef Atul Kochhar in the kitchen during the weekend.

Three weeks after its double-points finish in Mexico, and fresh from the third in-season test, Mahindra Racing travels to Hong Kong for the fifth round of the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship with the aim of consolidating its lead in both the manufacturers and driver’s championship.

Mahindra Racing heads to Hong Kong with high hopes of maintaining its podium record since the city’s inaugural race in season three. Ready to challenge at the front in his #64 M5Electro, known as the flying ‘Falcon’, is the current leader in the driver’s battle, Jérôme D’Ambrosio. Meanwhile Pascal Wehrlein, energised from his second consecutive Super Pole appearance and maiden pole position in the last race, will go racing in his #94 car, Electro McElectroFace.

At the inaugural race in Hong Kong in 2016, Mahindra Racing’s Nick Heidfeld finished on the podium in third place and repeated that result in the first of last year’s double-header races, while Felix Rosenqvist took the triple honours with a perfect day in race 2 in 2017; Pole Position, race victory and fastest lap.

As preparation for the first of two Asian legs gets underway, Mahindra Racing is pleased to announce that it remains the only team in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship to be accredited by the FIA Institute’s Sustainability Programme. Based on a recent assessment, the team attained its FIA 2-Star accreditation which is the equivalent to the previous “Progress towards Excellence” rating.
