MAHINDRA RACING RETURNS TO NEW YORK FOR SEASON FIVE FINALE

8 JULY 2019, BANBURY, UK – Fresh from the public debut of the M6Electro at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Mahindra Racing heads to the Big Apple this weekend for the finale of the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship in New York, where teams will tackle the season’s only double-header. Mahindra Racing will take to the streets of the Red Hook neighbourhood in the heart of Brooklyn on Saturday and Sunday for the third year running. The #64 and #94 M5Electro Formula E cars will be driven around the 2.373km Brooklyn Street Circuit by Jérôme D’Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein.

The conclusion of season five takes place on the 14-corner New York track with the epic backdrop of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, which is renowned for having an unforgiving reputation as a result of its concrete surface. Last year Mahindra Racing scored points in both races with Nick Heidfeld and Jérôme qualified for Super Pole with his previous team.

Heading into New York for the first and only double-header of the year, Mahindra Racing is in fifth position in the team championship with Jérôme and Pascal tenth and thirteenth respectfully in the driver’s battle. Throughout its season five campaign, the squad has so far claimed one race victory, three podiums, six Super Pole appearances, one Julius Baer Pole Position and one fastest lap with the M5Electro.

“New York has been good to us the previous two years we have raced there and historically we have performed well when it comes to double-header events. It gives you the opportunities to take the learnings and findings from the previous day and apply them straight away. We are looking forward to going somewhere we enjoy and where Mahindra Racing has performed well in the past.”

“I’m looking forward to racing in New York because it looks like a nice track to drive, and it is completely different to the street circuit that we have just been to, which keeps it fresh. For the race, I think the main challenge will be managing battery temperature. I hope I will get my sixth Super Pole of the season and another Pole Position would also be nice. I have experienced double-headers in the past in other racing formulas and I really enjoy it because you have more time in the car!”
