Sachsenring, Germany - 15 July 2016: Following Mahindra Racing's historic first Moto3TM win at the Dutch TT at Assen two weeks ago, the only Indian constructor in world championship motorcycle racing arrived at the Sachsenring in Germany this weekend armed with an all-new gearbox for the Mahindra MGP3O.
Having successfully developed and tested the new transmission during the past six weeks, the race was on to produce enough units to be able to homologate the new part and provide one to each of the eight Mahindra and two Peugeot Motocycle riders at the Sachsenring.
"We haven't really had a chance to celebrate Pecco's fantastic win in Assen," commented Mahindra Racing's CEO Mufaddal Choonia. "The team has been flat out working with our suppliers in order to be able to deliver the new gearbox to Germany so that we can up our performance even further. It has been a great effort to design, test and produce the new gearbox in only six weeks. As well as Albert Arenas in the Junior World Championship, we managed to run tests with a number of our World Championship riders with universally positive results. We were determined to release the upgrade as soon as possible and so have made a massive effort to get it here.
"With a quicker, smoother change both up and down the gears, this is an important development to give all of our riders more confidence as we head into the second half of the season. Pecco has shown that the MGP3O is capable of winning races and this fact, combined with the upgrades we have made to the bike over the past few races, should see improved performances from all of our riders."
Dutch TT race winner Pecco Bagnaia, lead rider in the official Aspar Mahindra team, was enthusiastic about the performance of the MGP3O fitted with the new gearbox after this morning's first session at the Sachsenring, a track where Mahindra Racing scored its previous best, a second place, in 2014. "xxxx xxxx," said the Italian teenager, who currently lies fourth in the World Championship. "xxx xxx."
The new transmission is the latest in a list of planned upgrades to come from Mahindra Racing's state-of-the-art development facility at Besozzo, near Varese. It follows a new shifting mechanism introduced in Catalunya.
The accelerated introduction of the new parts and Bagnaia’s spectacular win at Assen are reasons to be cheerful for the hard-working Mahindra Racing team. "We have come so close to winning over the past years, so it is fantastic to finally achieve it and tick off that goal," explained Choonia. "Our team of engineers has worked incredibly hard and it was a great reward when Pecco took the chequered flag. It has put a smile on the faces of everyone involved, but it has also made us even more determined to work harder still to achieve more wins in the future and to see better results across the board."
